New Home - handmade card

New Home Card - inspired by Stampin up's Flying Home stamp set

Welcome to my first blog, I hope you find it interesting and inspiring.

My friend has just moved house and I wanted to make her a special card as she is very excited about the move.

It was quite tricky to find an appropriate image.

This card uses stamping and colouring techniques aswell as die cutting.

To make this card I used:
  • ·         White card
  • ·         A4 Sandy coloured card
  • ·         ‘Flying Home’ Stampin Up stamp set
  • ·         Black ink pad
  • ·         Versa mark ink pad
  • ·         9cm square die
  • ·         Bunting die (I show how to use an alternative of string and white card)
  • ·         Promarkers – mustard, cornflower, pear green, Oatmeal, warm grey 1, dusky rose, sandstone and black (you can use any pencils or pens that you have to colour the image)

  1. Stamp the bird houses stamp using black ink onto white card.  Don’t stamp it too close to the corner as you will eventually cut it out using the 9cm square die.

  2. Colour in your image.  Personally I love to use Promarkers as they give a really good colour, they give good coverage and you can go back over the colours again making parts of them darker.
I used warm grey 1 Promarker to outline the houses and this helps the background not look quite so stark.

Tip - I colour the image, then I go back over it to add the shadows.  For example this yellow house, I use the yellow again and draw a line just under the roof. It gives the image a less flat look.

  3. Cut out the image using the 9cm square die (or you could just cut it out using a guillotine).

  4. Cut out two lots of bunting from white card.  Either use a die like the below photo or….

Cut a strip of white card 3cm wide and fold it in half.  Cut them into 1cm strips.  These can then be glued onto string

  5. Whichever way you make your bunting, just colour it in using your preferred medium used in point 2.  I coloured them in the same as the bunting in the image.

You need to make two lots of bunting, one with 3 flags and the second with 4 flags.  On the 3 flag length of bunting write the letters N E W on individual flags.  On the 4 flag length write the letters H O M E.  You could use stamps if you have them or even peel offs, if you do not like your writing.

TIP - I used a black Promarker to write my letters, however next time I would probably use a dark grey as I feel the black is a little harsh.

  6. Cut the A4 sandy coloured card in half to make a card that would fit a C5 envelope.

  7. Use the two little bird stamps from the Stampin Up set, one at a time, and stamp them randomly onto the front of the sandy coloured card using Versamark ink pad.  It creates a lovely background.

  8. Put foam pads onto your image and the bunting and then fix to your card front
