Cracker gift boxes - really easy to make

Simple to make cracker gift boxes

My thoughts have turned to Christmas again so this week I'll show you how to make these cool but really simple to make cracker gift boxes. You only need a few tools to make these and once you've got the hang of them, you could make them for all your guests for Christmas dinner. You could use them to wrap a hard to wrap gift or add a snap, hat and joke to them to turn them into actual crackers. They don't have to be just for Christmas either - make them in a different colour and pattern of paper, they could be made for birthday's, Easter or wedding favours.

A mini cracker will measure 12cm in length by 3.5cm wide. The body of the box to hold the gift is about 4.5cm by 3.5cm.

A longer cracker will measure about 28cm in length by 3.5cm wide. The body of the box to hold the gift is about 14cm by 3.5cm.

Follow the link below to find out how the cracker was made

You will need the following to make the mini cracker:
  • 6” x 6” scrapbook card (I used Dovecrafts Christmas Basics pack of 150gsm card)
  • 30cm piece of ribbon x 2
  • Guillotine with cutting and scoring blade
  • Double sided tape
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

  • To make the larger cracker you will need 6"x12" scrapbook card instead of the 6"x6".

To make the mini cracker box:
  1. Score the 6” x 6” card at the following intervals from the left side – 3.5cm, 7cm, 10.5cm and 14cm

  2. From the top of this card score at the following intervals – 2cm, 3.7cm and 5.4cm.

  3. From the bottom of the card score at the following intervals – 2cm, 3.7cm and 5.4cm.

  4. Fold the card along all of the score lines:
    Fold along score lines

  5. Put double sided tape along the right edge down the smallest folded piece

  6. Using a pencil mark along the second crease line from the top. From the left side mark at the following intervals – 1.4cm, 1.9cm, 4.8cm, 5.4cm, 8.4cm, 9cm, 11.9cm and 12.4cm. (see photo below point 7)

  7. Repeat step 6 on the second crease up from the bottom. (Ensure you start measuring from the edge that doesn’t have the double sided tape on it).

  8. Now fold your cracker into a cuboid by sticking the left edge up to the first score line from the right edge – ensuring your coloured paper is on the outside and press firmly to ensure the double sided tape holds..
Join ends of cracker to form cuboid

  9. Fold it flat

  10. On each long edge, measure 3mm from the bottom and top scored lines and mark with a pencil. Measure and mark 3mm outwards from the 3rd score line from top and bottom.

  11. Join the pencil lines that you have just drawn on the outside edge to the first pencil mark along the 2nd score line from top and bottom (drawn in point 6 and 7) to draw a triangle.

  1. Cut the triangles out.
    Cut out triangles

  2. Once you have cut out all 4 triangles, then refold the cracker so it looks like below:
    re-fold cracker

  3. Repeat step 10

  4. Cut the triangles out
Cut out triangles again, this allows cracker to be folded

  5. Open the cracker out so it forms a cuboid again and tie a piece of 30cm ribbon around the base as shown:
Tie around one end of cracker

  6. Fill your cracker with whatever you want and then tie the top opening with another 30cm length ribbon.
Fill cracker and then tie the other end

To make the longer cracker, follow the above instructions but use a piece of card that is 6” wide by 12” long and when you get to point 2 and 3, score at the following intervals – 5cm, 6.7cm and 8.4cm.
