Gorjuss Girl Birthday Card

Experiment with monochrome tones and a splash of colour to create this simple but striking birthday card

I received a really lovely Gorjuss girl stamp for Christmas so spent a little time playing with it to see if I could create a birthday card. Here is that card:
Gorjuss girl no75, The Frock, birthday card

I often struggle with black and white for birthday cards and have quite a few papers with monochrome patterns on them. However the dashes of pink in this one lifts the card and I'm really happy with the result. You could use any of the smaller Gorjuss girl stamps (8 . 5 cm x 4 cm) but the one I am using is no75 The Frock.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • C6 white card base
  • 10 cm x 14 . 5 cm black card
  • Black card (roughly 9 cm x 13 cm)
  • 9 cm x 13 . 5 cm black and white patterned paper (mine was from Petal Passion designer series paper from Stampin' Up!
  • White card (roughly 9 cm x 12 cm)
  • 2 nesting dies, one to cut out the picture (about 9 . 5 cm high by 6 . 5 cm wide) and one a little larger to create a layer (about 11 . 5 cm high by 8 cm wide)
  • Gorjuss girl stamp (the one I used was no75 The Frock)
  • Black ink pad
  • Colouring medium of your choosing (I used Promarkers - cool grey 5, black, blush, rose pink and denim blue)
  • Thin ribbon 15cm in length x 2 (I used fuchsia coloured 3mm ribbon)
  • Small amount of fuchsia pink card
  • Balloon punch or die (I used the Stampin' Up! balloon punch - larger balloon)
  • A greeting stamp (I used 'happy birthday to you' greeting from the Circle of Spring Stampin' Up! stamp set)
  • Double sided foam pads
  • Double sided tape

  1. Stamp your Gorjuss girl image onto the 9 cm by 12 cm piece of white card using black ink and colour it in
Stamp the Gorjuss girl stamp and colour it in

  2. Cut out the image using the smaller nesting die

  3. Using the larger nesting die, cut out the shape from the 9 cm x 13 cm black card. Using double sided tape stick the image centrally ontop of the black card shape.
Layer the image up with nesting dies

  4. Using double sided tape stick the patterned paper on top of the 10 cm x 14 . 5 cm black card
Use a piece of paper from Stampin' Up! Petal Passion designer paper pack

  5. Attach one of the ribbon lengths across the black and patterned paper created in step 4. Do not use glue or tape on the front but instead use a little bit of tape on the back to hold it in place half way up. Attach this to the white base card.
Attach ribbon across the front of the card

  6. Thread the second length of ribbon under the first one and tie a knot then into a bow, so it sits on the right hand side of the card.
Tie a bow onto the previous ribbon on the front of the card

  7. Using foam pads stick the Gorjuss girl image (created in step 3) centrally on the front of the card base so it covers the ribbon but the bow shows to the right.
Attach the Gorjuss girl image to the front of the card

  8. Using black ink, stamp your greeting on to the pink card and cut it into the balloon shape using a die or punch
Stamp a greeting and then punch out using a balloon punch or die

  9. Using double sided foam pads attach the balloon to the top left hand corner of the base card

It is a simple card but the small amount of fuchsia pink just brings the card to life. You could put any greeting on the balloon or even stamp it with an age. Maybe try adding the smaller balloon from the punch with the age on it. Just a suggestion : )

Whatever you choose to do, have fun crafting. x
