Make a lovely gift of post-it note holder with pencil - with or without a calendar
I wanted to make some new year gifts for my friends using the small calendar tabs that you used to use when you were a child on your school art work. This gift is based on an easel style card and I decided to add post-it notes and a pencil so it can be placed on a desk or next to a phone - ready to take important messages.
As I've already missed the beginning of the year (I'm always working on things last minute!) I've also made the same gift without the calendar to show you it doesn't have to include that bit if you wish to make them later in the year.
Follow the below link to find out how the gift was made
You will need
- Patterned paper - cut two - 8 . 5 cm wide by 10 cm high. (if the paper has a directional picture, make sure you have it up the correct way when cutting)
- Coloured card cut to 9 cm wide by 21 cm high (creates the base of the easel card)
- Coloured card cut to 9 cm wide by 10 . 5 cm high (this will be the front of the easel card)
- Coloured card cut to 2 cm by 12 cm (this will form the pencil holder)
- Coloured card cut to 8 . 5 cm wide by 5 . 5 cm high (the calendar tab will be layered ontop of this)
- Calendar tab (Docrafts calendar tabs pack of 10) (7 . 5 cm wide by 4 . 5 cm high)
- Sticky notes (I got mine from Poundland for £1. Roughly 7 . 5 cm square. Came as one pack of 360 sheets in 4 colours and I separated them by colour)
- Short Pencil (I bought a pack of normal pencils from Poundland and cut them in half to make each pencil roughly 9 cm long)
- Double sided tape
- Greeting or saying stamp (I used 'A little note' from the Butterfly Gala stamp set from Stampin' Up!)
- Ink pad (I used a green ink pad to match the card colour)
- Small amount of coloured card (I used the same card as the card used to create the easel card)
- Rectangular die to cut around the greeting or saying and one fractionally larger to create a layering piece
I made one without the calendar tab. The extra bits you will need to make one of these:
- You should have the following card and paper bits:
- On the 21 cm by 9 cm piece of card, score at 5 . 25 cm and 10 . 5 cm from one of the short ends
- Fold along the score lines and then put double sided tape around the small end as per below photo (this creates the easel base)
- Stick the 9 cm by 10 . 5 cm piece of card onto the card base in point 2 as per below photo. (This creates what I will refer to as the front of the easel card)
- Stick the patterned paper to the card as per below photo. One onto the card front and one on the base.
- Stick the calendar tab centrally on to the piece of card that is 8 . 5 cm by 5 . 5 cm
- Using the 2 cm by 12 cm piece of card, fold it in half, put the pencil into the fold and start to curve the paper into a round around the pencil to form a pencil holder as per the below photo
- The parts of the strips that are not around the pencil, now need sticking together. (The parts that my thumb is holding in above photo)
- Stick the pencil holder behind the calendar as shown in the below photo
- Stick the calendar and pencil holder to the front of the easel card fairly centrally.
- Attach the post it note to the easel card base on top of the patterned paper but so the front of the post it is only a few millimeters from the front as per the below photo
- When you want to display the post it notes, fold the front of the card so it rests just behind the back of the post it note. It can be folded up so you can send it to someone but it will be quite thick to post
To Make the gift without the calendar, I stamped my greeting onto white card and cut it out using a die. I cut out some spare green card with the slightly larger rectangular die and layered the greeting on top. I then created the pencil holder as per the other gift and attached the pencil holder to the right hand side of the greeting. This was then stuck to the front of the easel card instead of the calendar.
One of my favourite things is being by the seaside and I'd love to own a beach hut, so I created one of these calendar gifts for my desk using a beach hut patterned paper - how cool is that? You can see I've attached the calendar slightly lower so the beach hut pictures show.
Have fun with these.
