Hedgehugs xx

A valentine card made using Stampin' Up! Hedgehugs stamp set

So this week I've made a valentine card using a very cute hedgehog stamp. I've also used a large background stamp so I can show you the easiest way to use them to get the best results.

Finally ! - a way I can successfully use LARGE background stamps. The bonus with these background stamps is they are large enough to create backgrounds for the most commonly used C6 cards and you can ink them in any colour to match any project you are doing.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • 5" x 5" white card blank
  • Red card
  • White card
  • Hardwood background stamp by Stampin' Up!
  • Hedgehugs stamp set by Stampin' Up!
  • Smokey Slate ink pad by Stampin' Up!
  • Early Espresso ink pad by Stampin' Up!
  • Colouring medium (I used Promarkers - cardinal red, satin and blush)
  • Doily Builder Thinlits dies by Stampin' Up!
  • Circle nesting die about 6 . 5 cm diameter
  • Guillotine
  • Glue, Double sided tape and double sided foam pads

  1. Cut a piece of white card 12 cm x 15 cm

  2. Cut a circle from white card using the 6 . 5 cm circle nesting die

  3. Keep the Hardwood background stamp in it's case and ink it up using the smokey slate ink pad.

  4. Place the piece of white card, cut out in step 1, ontop of the stamp and holding it still, gently rub all over the back of the card.
place the white card ontop of the inked stamp

Lift the card off the ink pad - try to lift it upwards so it doesn't drag and smudge your print

  5. Cut the stamped piece of card down to 10 . 5 cm x 10 . 5 cm

  6. Using the early espresso ink pad stamp 'Sending Hedgehugs your way ..' in the lower right hand corner of the stamped background card. Using the same ink pad, stamp the hedgehog holding a flower in the centre of the circle cut out in step 2. Colour in your hedgehog.

  7. Using the largest doily die from the Doily Builder die set, cut one out of red card and one out of white card

  8. Put glue around the inner part of the red doily and stick the white doily ontop so the outer frilly bits offset each other

  9. Put glue lightly around the back edge of the hedgehog circle and stick ontop of the red and white doilies
create the doily by sticking the parts together

  10. Cut a piece of red card to 11 cm x 11 cm and stick it centrally onto the card blank

  11. Stick the hardwood stamped card ontop of the red card on the card blank

  12. Using foam pads, stick the hedgehog circle centrally ontop.

So what do you think of my hedgehug valentine card? I was quite pleased with the end result - enough red for a valentine card but not overly soppy! Obviously this card could be adjusted for birthday's or anniversaries. My main reason for doing it was to show you how easy stamping with a large stamp could be. I hope you can give it a go.
Happy crafting
