Easter Magnolia

Make this 3d easel card for Easter using Stampin Up Magnolia paper and Magnolia Memory Dies

Easter doesn't have to be all about bunnies and chocolate. This Easter card was made with a spring theme of magnolia flowers. Part of the 3d magnolia flower was made with a hot air balloon punch!

This card ends up being quite deep and wouldn't fit in a normal envelope without squashing the petals flat. Instead make an envelope box for it. Click here to see my instructions.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • Magnolia Memory Dies by Stampin Up
  • Hot air balloon punch by Stampin Up
  • Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper by Stampin up
  • So Saffron coloured card by stampin up
  • So Saffron ink pad by Stampin up
  • Green card
  • Finger dauber or sponge
  • Gold faceted gems by stampin up
  • 1 3/8 " scalloped punch by Stampin Up
  • Large circle die - about 11 . 5 cm in diameter
  • Fancy rectangular die about 5 . 5 cm by 4 cm
  • Happy Easter peel offs or greeting stamp
  • Ball ended shaping tool with mat
  • Bone folder
  • Glue and double sided foam pads

  1. Fold a piece of white card in half and using the circle die, place it so that it just hangs over the crease line and cut out on a die machine. This creates your base card.

This is your circular base card with a flat bit at the top where it folds

the circular card flattened out to show how it joins and hinges at the flat point

  2. Fold one of the circles of the base card in half
Fold the front circle of the base card in half inwards

How the folded circle bit of base card makes the easel card blank

  3. Using the circle die cut one from white card and then 2 out of designer paper (I used the green with white leafs and green with white stripe paper)

  4. Glue one of the designer paper circles to the white card circle. Glue the other designer paper circle to the base card (the part that hasn't been folded in half)
Glue designer paper from stampin up to the base card

  5. Glue the white card circle with the designer paper on it to the folded circle on the base card as shown by the glue on the below photo. Only glue half of the folded circle. Ensure the curve of the circles line up.

Put the desinger paper circle onto the glued part to create the top of easel card

  6. Out of white card, punch out 5 hot air balloon shapes and the three triple petal shapes from the Magnolia Memory Dies set.

  7. Die cut the large stamen die out of so saffron card. You should now have the following pieces to build the flower:
5 hot air balloon shapes and 3 triple petal die cuts plus stamen

  8. Using the finger dauber dipped in the so saffron ink pad, blend ink onto the hot air balloon shapes so the concentrate of colour is at the small base.

  9. Using the dauber again, add ink to the centre of the triple petal pieces and to the edges of the stamen piece
add 'so saffron' ink to the plain white die cut shapes

  10. Using the shaping tool and mat, work the stamen piece so it curls up at the edges by running the ball end in the middle area
shape the stamen into a bowl shape

  11. Use the bone folder to curl the hot air balloon shapes and the petals on the triple petal pieces. Hold the petal between the bone folder and your finger and move both up the petal with the bone folder at a slight angle. It will curl. If it isn't curling very well, angle the bone folder slightly differently
Use a bone folder to curl the petals on the triple petal shapes

  12. Punch the 1 3/8 " circle from white card. Add glue to it and then start sticking the hot air balloon shaped petals around it to create the flower base.

  13. Stick the triple petal pieces into the centre of the flower starting with the larger one and then the other two, just by putting a drop of glue on the centre back of each piece
glue the 3 triple petal flowers ontop of each other in centre of flower base

  14. Stick the so saffron stamen into the centre and then top with a gold faceted gem
glue stamen and gold faceted gem to centre of flower

  15. Cut 3 leaf shapes from green card using the leaf die from the Magnolia Memory Dies set

  16. Glue the magnolia flower to the top circle of the base card. Put a little drop of glue on the base of one of the die cut leaves and stick it top left behind the magnolia flower.
glue the finished magnolia 3d flower to the front of the easel card

  17. Using the shaped rectangular die cut one from white card

  18. Put the Happy Easter greeting on the centre of this rectangle.

  19. Using the finger dauber or sponge dipped in the so saffron ink pad, ink around the edge of the rectangle. (This helps it not look too stark and blends in with your design)

  20. Add foam pads to the back of the little rectangle and add to the bottom circle of the base card so the top circle can rest behind it. Put a little glue on the stalk end of the remaining two leaves and slot them under the rectangle

The easel card stands up when the top circle rests behind the greeting rectangle. Or it folds flat and looks like one circle.

Because of the 3d flower this card will not fit in a normal envelope. I made a box envelope for it. Click here for the instructions.
