Use your favourite papers and stamps to send friends and loved ones a postcard
We are in difficult times at the moment with the lock down due to Covid-19 so I thought wouldn't it be nice to send friends and loved ones a little note to say Hi ! I love to receive something through the post and as we are not doing holidays as such this year, wouldn't it be fab to send postcards?
I had just bought a stamp set that lends itself to a postcard as it has a greeting that says 'Buzzing by to say Hello'. You could make this into a notelet if you would prefer some more space to write a letter or just make it into a birthday or greeting card.
You can use any of your favourite papers or stamp sets - similar idea to Artist Trading Cards. Just ensure, if you intend to send it as a postcard, that your layers are all flat as it won't go through the postal system in one piece. If you want raised layers, then I suggest you put it into an envelope to post it.
Follow the below link to find out how the postcard was made
You will need
- White A4 card
- Patterned paper 10 . 1 cm tall by 14 . 5 cm wide (I used bee paper from Stampin Ups 'Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper)
- Dark brown card
- Mid brown card
- Light pink card
- Black card
- Yellow and black ink pads (I used a black ink pad from Hobbycraft and Delightful Dijon inkpad from Stampin Up)
- Cute Bear Silicone Clear Stamp with Cutting Dies (Bought from Amazon)
- Ruler, black pen, pencil and glue
- Cut a piece of A4 white card into 4 pieces by cutting it in half each way. (You should end up with 4 rectangles 14 . 9 cm by 10 . 5 cm which allows you to make 4 postcards)
- Glue the patterned paper to the front of the postcard cut out in step 1
- Using black ink and the bear stamp from the stamp set, stamp a bear onto dark brown card and die cut it out
- Die cut a muzzle out of mid brown card and a nose out of light pink card
- Glue the bear pieces together
- Cut a piece of white card 7 . 5 cm by 3 cm
- Using black ink and the 'Buzzing by to say Hello' greeting from the stamp set, stamp the greeting onto the right hand side of the white card cut out in step 6
- Trim a triangular section from the left hand side of the white card
- Cut a strip of black card 8 cm by 3 . 5 cm and trim a triangle out of the left hand side as per the white strip of card
- Glue the white strip ontop of the black strip
- Using yellow ink, stamp the solid bee body from the stamp set onto white card
- Using black ink, stamp the bee top layer (stripes, wings and eyes) on top of the yellow bee body (You may wish to use a stamping aid such as a Stamparatus or Misti to get this lined up well)
- Cut the bee out using the matching die
- Glue the bear onto the postcard in the bottom left corner and stick the black and white greeting strip to the top right side of the postcard. Glue the bee onto the greeting strip
- On the back of the postcard draw a vertical line down 7 cm from the right side to split the address section of your postcard from the message section
- In the address section on the right, measure down 5 cm from the top and draw a horizontal line. This will form your top address line. Draw 5 further lines 1 cm apart down the rest of the right hand section.
This is your finished postcard. You can now write your message add the address and a stamp to post it to your loved ones or friends. If you are worried about it going through the post, you could always put it into an envelope first.
I've made a small selection to give you some ideas. I've stamped and cut out butterflies and made them 3d (obviously this would have to go in an envelope ! ). You could also print photos and add them to the front of the postcard as I've done - a photo of my newly painted summerhouse - now known as a beach hut (although I'm several miles away from a beach ! ) and decorated it with die cuts.
I hope you have fun with this project and share the love and fun with your loved ones and friends.
