Writing paper

Send a friend a hand written letter on your own created gorgeous paper

I had a friend write to me recently - I haven't had a letter through the post for some time. I am determined to write back but my paper is just the plain white stuff that you can buy. I therefore decided to make my paper more interesting by using stamps from my stash.
Selection of letter writing papers with stamped images on

So yay - I now have some lovely paper to write back to my friend on. You could make the paper with the same image on each page or even use die cuts instead of stamps. When I write my letter and have gaps in my writing I will probably fill the spaces with either more stamps or die cuts or even peel offs. It's a great way to use those stamps you love.

You may want to make a letter and envelope set to give as a gift. You could theme the letters and envelopes so they all match. I show you how to make a basic wallet to store them in at the end of the blog.

Follow the below link to find out how the stationery was made

You will need
  • A writing pad (I got mine from W H Smiths and Wilko's - it's the one where the pages are plain white but you get a lined page to put behind to guide your writing. If not you can just cut some A4 printer paper in half)
  • Your favourite stamps
  • Ink pads
  • Colouring pencils
  • C6 envelopes

If you want to make the wallet to store the envelopes and papers in you will also need:
  • A piece of 12 x 12 double sided scrapbook card
  • Scoring board or a guillotine with scoring blade
  • A pencil, metal ruler, craft knife and double sided tape

The beauty of this project is you can use what ever you have in your crafting stash. Try and keep the images flat as it will help with posting the finished letter
The writing pad, plain pages with one lined sheet
  1. Stamp your image onto a piece of the white paper from the writing pad and colour it in with crayons. (Don't use promarkers as these will show on the other side - unless you don't normally write on both sides). Here are my examples:
Lawn Fawns 'You're just my type'. Typewriter and message stamp and coloured
I used the typewriter and message stamp from Lawn Fawns 'You're just my type' stamp set

Lawn Fawn 'Year ten' cactus stamped along bottom and coloured in
(I love these cactus stamps - if you hadn't already realised ! )  These are Lawn Fawn's 'Year ten' stamp and die set.  I made each of the cacti slightly different by colouring them different greens and  having different flowers.  The flowers where stamped onto card, die cut and glued on.

Lawn Fawn 'Thanks a Latte' cups stamped and coloured in
This page shows two different cups from the Lawn Fawn's 'Thanks a Latte' stamp set.  There are lots of pieces to this stamp set and you can add different contents and a smiley face !

Lace border stamped with purple ink on the top and bottom of the paper
This is quite a simple page just using lace stamp from Stampin Up's 'Delicate Details' stamp set.

Hello There corner stamp from Stampin Up, stamped bottom right corner
This is another simple page but I love the corner stamps from the 'Around the corner' stamp set by Stampin Up.

Leaves and small flowers stamped across the middle of the paper
This time I decided to add the detail to the centre of the page - it doesn't always have to be at the edges.  This one is made using the leaves from 'Botanical Bliss' and the tiny flowers from 'Thoughtful Blooms' both by Stampin Up.

Gorjuss Girl stamped in bottom right corner and coloured in
My other favourite images are Gorjuss Girls.  This stamp is called 'no 6 I found my family in a book'.

  2. You can stamp the same images onto the envelopes to make matching sets. I've stamped onto the flap on the back of the envelope. You could stamp on the front but leave space for the address so it can be seen clearly. Or you could make envelopes if you have an envelope maker (see my instructions on the how to page by clicking here)
Stamped flower onto envelope flap from 'special reason' stampin up stamp set

  3. To make a wallet to store your writing stationery in, mark a 12 x 12 piece of double sided scrapbook card as shown in the below photo (2 inches in from each side and 3 . 5 inches down the middle. Join these points up with straight lines)
Mark a 12 x 12 scrapbook card, 2inches from each side and 3.5 inch down in the middle

  4. Cut along the pencil lines with a craft knife

  5. Score the card 4 . 5 inches down from the side you have just cut the triangle out of. Score the card in half the other way. Put double sided tape as shown in the below photo
Cut out the triangle and put double sided tape at edge and in the middle

  6. Fold the 4 . 5 inch section up and stick it down to create the pockets for the paper and envelopes

  7. Insert your papers and envelopes into the wallet pockets and fold the wallet in half
Slot your papers and envelopes into the wallet

Fold the wallet in half to keep the papers secure

You can now gift your papers or keep them for yourself. I think I'm going to keep mine and write to my friend.  My friend was thrilled last time she received one of my decorative letters - it made her day.
