Make a cheerful rainbow card just to say hi or get well soon
Here in the UK we use rainbows to symbolise hope in the covid-19 crisis and it suddenly struck me how I could die cut one to make a card. They are cheery, so got out my dies and ended up crafting two cards.
The rainbow itself is made using nesting circular dies so I created a whole circle of the rainbow and then cut in half to create two cards.
Follow the below link to find out how the cards were made
You will need the following to make both cards
- Nesting circular dies measuring 11 . 5 cm, 10 . 3 cm, 9 cm, 7 . 7 cm, 6 . 3 cm, 5 cm and 3 . 8 cm (I got mine cheaply from The Works - doesn't matter if yours are different sizes as long as you have 7 circular dies and they are evenly spaced apart, although you may have to change the dimensions of your base card to compensate or even do less colours in your rainbow)
- Coloured card - red, yellow, pink, green, purple and blue
- White card
- Sky patterned blue card or plain blue card
- Navy, grey and yellow ink pads (I used Stampin Up's night of navy, smokey slate and crushed curry)
- Cloud die (mine is a QuicKutz die no ARS0025 - the cloud measures about 5 . 5 cm by 3 cm. If you don't have a die just cut a cloud shape by hand)
- Sun die (I got a cheap die from The Range and it measures about 3 . 5 cm in diameter)
- Eye and mouth stamp (I used the eye stamp from Lawn Fawns year ten stamp set, however you could leave your clouds blank or just draw on a face)
- Hello sunshine greeting stamp from Under my Umbrella stamp set by Stampin Up (You can use any greeting that will fit onto your cloud shape)
- Get well soon greeting stamp (mine came from a magazine stamp set)
- Die Cutting machine
- Glue, double sided foam pads and double sided tape
- Using your largest (11 . 5 cm) and second largest (10 . 3 cm) circular dies cut a frame from red card by placing the smaller die within the bigger die and running through your die cutting machine
- Using the same process as step 1 but using slightly smaller dies each time cut the following:
- 10 . 3 cm and 9 cm dies cut a frame out of yellow
- 9 cm and 7 . 7 cm dies cut a frame out of pink card
- 7 . 7 cm and 6 . 3 cm dies cut a frame out of green card
- 6 . 3 cm and 5 cm dies cut a frame out of purple card
- 5 cm and 3 . 8 cm dies cut a frame out of blue card
- Your frames will now sit within each other and creating a circular rainbow. Using the largest circular die cut one out of white card
- Put glue all over the white circle just cut out and stick your rainbow ontop. This will make your rainbow sturdy for putting onto a card.
- Using the smallest die cut out the centre of the white circle
- Cut your circle in half to create two separate rainbows
To make the circular card:
- Fold a piece of white A4 card in half and using the largest circular die, place it just over the fold and cut through. You may need to run it through your die cutting machine twice to cut through both layers.
- open up your die cut card and fold the top circle in half towards the centre fold (This will create your circular easel card)
- Using the largest circular die again cut two from your sky patterned paper
- Stick one of the sky circles onto the bottom circle of your easel card
- Stick the other sky circles to the top front half of the easel base card as per the below photo:
- Cut off the other half of the sky circle that sticks above the card as per the below photo:
- Stick one of your rainbows to the top half of the easel card so most of it sticks up above the card itself
- Die cut (or cut by hand) 4 cloud shapes out of white card and a sun out of yellow card
- Stamp faces using grey ink pad onto 3 of the clouds and your Hello Sunshine greeting onto the 4th cloud using yellow ink pad
- Glue the sun so it is appearing from behind the cloud with the greeting on
- Using double sided foam pads, stick the clouds and sun onto your card as per the following photo:
To make the Get well soon card:
- Cut a strip from white card measuring 24 cm by 4 cm and fold in half - this will be your base card (I know it's small but bear with me ! )
- Cut the following from the sky patterned card - 12 cm x 4 cm and 12 cm x 12 cm
- Glue the 12 cm by 4 cm card to the front of your base card
- Glue the 12 cm by 12 cm square to the inside back of your base card
- Stamp your greeting using navy ink towards the top of the back piece of sky patterned card
- Stick your rainbow to the front section so most of it sticks above the small front layer (Ensure it doesn't stick to the back layer as your card needs to open)
- Die cut two clouds from white card
- Using double sided foam pads stick your clouds to the base of the rainbow as per the below photo:
There you have two different cards using the same rainbow. You can change your greeting to anything you like - Happy Birthday or Hi !
