Halloween Bat Box

Make these fab bat pillow gift boxes out of just black and white card

It will soon be Halloween so this week I show you how to make these cute bat gift boxes. They are made from an A4 sheet of black card and a small amount of white card. You can then fill them with sweets and gift them.

I will attach a link so you can download a template in order to cut out your bat shapes by hand. However if you have a silhouette machine, send me a message via my contact me page (here) and I will email you a file that your machine can cut out.

I made a lot of these for my work colleagues and filled them with Hero chocolates. I can't imagine the chocolates lasted long but they said the boxes were so cute that they would bring them out again next year and refill them!

Follow the below link to find out how the box was made
You will need
  • A4 sheet of black card
  • White card
  • Glue or double sided tape
  • Scoring tool, sponge and ruler
  • Template - click here

  1. Use the template to cut the larger circle and triangular pieces out of white card and the rest out of black card. The solid lines are cut lines and the dotted lines are score lines
Use my template to cut out the parts to make a bat box

  2. Use your scoring tool and ruler to crease the pillow box piece where the dotted lines are.  (The best way to do this is put the template ontop of your cut out black pillow box shape, ontop of some foam and using your scoring tool with ball end, draw over the dotted lines)
Fold the score lines of the pillow box

  3. Put glue or double sided tape on the tab (thin strip of card on the left shown in above photo) of the pillow box and stick it into a tube shape
Put glue on the tab and form the pillow box into a tube

Put glue on the tab and form the pillow box into a tube

  4. Fold in the bottom end of the tube - it doesn't need to be stuck, just folded.  Fold one side in and then the other ontop of it.
Fold the bottom of the pillow box in

  5. Put a dab of glue or some double sided tape in the centre of the wing section and stick it to the back of the pillow box

Put glue on the centre of the bat wings
Stick the bat wings to the back of the pillow box

  6. Glue the white larger circles on the front of the pillow box and then the smaller black circles ontop to create the eyes
Glue the circles onto the front for eyes

  7. Glue the two white triangles just below the eyes to create the teeth as per the below photo
Glue the triangles below the eyes to create teeth and a mouth

  8. Fill your box with chocs or a gift and then fold the top in
Glue eyes in different places to create unique bats

I made several and glued the black circles into slightly different places to create unique bats all with their own personalities!
