Made using Lawn Fawn's scalloped box die and beach hut add on
I challenged myself to make a Christmas house gift box but using Lawn Fawns beach hut add on die that I already have. I've done a previous blog where I made beach huts for my work colleagues as a welcome back to school treat (Click here if you'd like to see this blog)
I managed it ! I turned a seagull into a robin and the life ring into a wreath. It makes a lovely little Christmas gift box. As I'd achieved my goal, I then used another stamp and die set to embellish it even more. I will show you this one at the end of the blog - just scroll down to see.
Sometimes dies and stamps can be used to create other shapes than what they were intended for. This blog page shows you just one of these. Have a look at what you have in your cupboard - you might find a new use for some of them :)
You will need
- A4 piece of brown card
- Bits of coloured card (I used white, red, green, gold and dark brown)
- Lawn Fawn's Scalloped Treat Box die
- Lawn Fawn's Scalloped Treat Box Beach House Add-on die
- Die cutting machine
- Guillotine and scissors
- Glue, double sided tape and double sided foam pads
- Cut out two scalloped treat boxes out of brown card
- Cut 4 rectangles from white card measuring 5 cm by 9 cm
- Put the top of the scalloped treat box die on the white card as per the following photo, so you just cut the roof part. Do this on all 4 pieces of white card that you cut out in step 2
(The below photo shows just two roof parts but you need to cut 4 - 2 for each side of the roof) - Cut a curvy line on 2 of the white roof parts between the bottom and the lower fold line as shown in the below photo's (I am afraid I cheated and used Lawn Fawns stitched hillside borders die)
- Using a guillotine or your scissors, cut the very top off these white pieces at the top fold line
- On the remaining two roof parts cut a curvy line higher up as shown in the below photo
- (Do the next four steps for both brown box parts) Using a guillotine or your scissors, cut the very top off the brown scalloped box parts (cut out in step 1) at the top fold line
- Put glue on the top of the brown box part above the fold line as shown in the below photo and glue the white roof to it (the one where you cut off the top in step 5)
- Put a line of double sided tape on the back of the remaining white roof parts just below the fold line as shown in the below photo
- Stick this to the brown roof part so the top of the brown box part lines up with the fold line on the white roof part (see below photo)
This photo shows the view from the back of the box part This photo shows the view from the front and how layering
the two white roof parts create a snowy roof - Fold along all score lines of the two brown box parts
- Cut a door out of red card using the door die from the set
- Make two windows - cut two white frames, two black backings and 4 red shutters. Glue them together as per the below photo
- Make a wreath - cut one green hoop (backing from life ring die) and 5 tiny circles from red card using dies from the set. Glue the circles to the green ring
- Make a robin - cut one seagull from dark brown card and one from red card, and cut one wing from dark brown card. Trim the dark brown seagull's beak so it's shorter. Cut the red seagull down so you are just left with the red tummy. Glue the red tummy and wing onto the bird. Cut the feet off the bird
- Make a Christmas tree - Cut a log from dark brown card and several grass shapes from green card using the dies from the set. Also cut 5 tiny circles from red card and 5 from gold card. Glue the green grass shapes to the log starting from the top and going down each side so the tree forms a triangle shape. Then glue the tiny circles randomly onto the tree.
- Using the sand die from the die set cut out 3 lots from white card to create piles of snow.
- Cut another log shape from dark brown card that the robin can stand on
- Glue all the pieces onto the brown box sides as per the below photo - I used double sided foam pads on the wreath and robin
- Put glue on the base of one of the box parts as shown in the below photo
- Stick the other brown box part ontop matching the rectangles
- Put glue on the side tabs
- Fold and stick the box sides together
- Fold in the top parts of the boxes and they then hook through the slots in the side walls to keep the box closed
The Christmas house gift box is now complete using the beach hut die set.
I then went on to add a little more decoration using Lawn Fawn's 'Ready, Set, Snow' stamp and die set . I stamped a snowman, Merry Christmas greeting and Santa with his sleigh onto white card. I coloured the snowman and then die cut all pieces. Using double sided foam pads, I attached them to the box. I then used a clear glitter glue to add a little sparkle to the tops of the snow.
