Make this lovely giftbox that has two drawers for your gifts
This cute giftbag/box is made from card and has two drawers plus a gap above where you could add a small bag of sweets. The drawers push through from either side and the internal dimension of each drawer is 7 cm by 5 . 5 cm by 2 . 4 cm deep.
This is quite simple to make but just double check each measurement before you make the cut or crease. I've made the main drawers from thicker white card and the outside decorative papers are from Stampin Up's 12x12 designer papers. You could use coloured card for the drawers and even make them without Christmas papers for other occasions.
Follow the below link to find out how the giftbag was made
You will need
- A4 white card (I used Stampin Up's Whisper White cardstock)
- A4 sheet of patterned card (I used Stampin Up's Santas Workshop designer paper)
- 30 cm of thin ribbon
- 2 Oval die cutters - 7 . 5 cm by 4 . 7 cm and 5 . 5 cm by 2 . 7 cm (Mine came from The Works and have scalloped edge but any oval dies of similar size will do)
- Hole punch (I used We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile)
- Guillotine with scoring and cutting blades
- Double sided tape or glue
- Washi tape
- Bone folder
- Die cutting machine
- Cut 2 rectangles from white card measuring 12 cm by 10 . 5 cm each
- Score 2 . 5 cm from each edge of the two rectangles. Use your bone folder to fold along the score lines to ensure the folded pieces are creased really well
The dotted lines show the score lines - The scoring creates squares in each corner - these become the tabs of the drawers. Cut the tabs as per the below photo
Cut along one of the score lines of each of the square tabs and then trim out a thin triangle to make the tabs tapered - Put double sided tape or glue on the tabs and fold to create the drawers
- Cut 2 rectangles from white card each measuring 18 cm by 7 . 2 cm
- Score this card at 5 . 5 cm, 8 . 2 cm, 13 . 8 cm and 16 . 4 cm (this leaves 1 . 6 cm tab at the end of the card). Use your bone folder to ensure good folds at these score lines
(The dotted lines show where the score lines are) - Place a drawer in one of these pieces of card and wrap it around the drawer. Glue the end piece of the wrapper onto the 1 . 6 cm tab. Do this for both drawers. You want it to fit tightly around the drawer but not too tight that you distort the drawer otherwise it will not slide in and out of the wrapper.
- Glue the two drawers together - stacked ontop of each other
- Cut a rectangle measuring 24 . 2 cm by 7 . 2 cm
- Score this card at 5 . 7 cm, 11 . 1 cm, 16 . 8 cm and 22 .2 cm (this will leave a 2 cm tab at the end). Use your bone folder to make sure the folds are creased well.
- Lay this card out on the table with the 2 cm tab at the left hand side. Put glue or double sided tape on the third rectangle along as shown in the below photo
- Place the drawers onto the glued part of the card and then put double sided tape on the wrapper as shown in the below photo where the red lines are
- Wrap the left hand side around the drawers and then wrap the right hand side around the drawers encasing them both. (This may seem a bit excessive to keep wrapping the drawers but it makes the drawers much more stable)
- Cut two rectangles from patterned card, each measuring 17 cm tall by 7 . 2 cm wide (double check your pattern before cutting to ensure if you have a picture that needs to be up a correct way that it does so)
- Score both rectangles at 5 . 4cm from the bottom edge
Scored line is shown with dotted lines in above photo - Place the two bits of card together (so that the outside pattern is on the outside and if you have an inside pattern they are touching). Place the larger oval die so the top of it touches the top of these rectangles and secure in place with a little bit of washi tape. Then move the rectangles (ensuring they remain lined up) and the attached die so that the lower half of the die is hanging off the cutting plate of your die machine. (We want to cut only the top half of the die and by hanging the lower half of the cutting pad, it will not cut). Run it through your die cutting machine
Cutting half an oval die creates a lovely curved top to the bag - Now place the smaller oval die as per the below photo, secure in place with a small piece of washi tape and run it completely through the die cutting machine - this will create a handle hole (ensure you have both bits of card lined up again as you need the handle in the same place on the front and back pieces)
- Score these rectangles about 1 cm below the bottom of the handle hole
The dotted lines show where to score - Use your hole punch to punch two holes about 1 cm apart between the bottom of the handle and the crease made in step 18. (It's best to do these hole punches whilst the two pieces of card are still lined up together. I however changed it so the inside pattern was now on the outside so I could mark it lightly with pencil to make sure I got the holes evenly spaced)
- Put glue or double sided tape on one side of your drawers. Attach the lower half of one of the patterned rectangles to the side of the drawers as per the below photo
- Do the same to the other side
- Thread ribbon through both holes on each side to tie together. (If you are adding a small bag of sweets, hole punch the top of the sweet bag and catch them in between the card as you thread it with ribbon)
- Cut 4 rectangles from patterned card each measuring 5 cm wide by 2 cm high
- Glue these to the front and backs of each drawer
