Make your own tags - really quick and easy
For some reason I always end up with lots of rolls of Christmas wrapping paper but no matching tags left. I love my parcels to look pretty and special, so normally buy rolls of wrap with an idea for a matching tag in mind and then go home and make lots of tags. If you think of a simple but bold design, you can make lots of tags in one sitting - bit like a production line! I showed you how to make one this time last year - a reindeer design and if you missed it, you can click here to be taken to that blog page. This year I have gone for a Holly design which will match several of my rolls of wrapping paper.
Like I said it's a quick project to do, because we are all very busy this time of the year and do not always have time to nip to the shops if we suddenly find we have run out of tags!
My design has been made using a die from Sizzix called Tag, scallop Combo. It's a die that has 3 different sized tags on. I bought it years ago and it is probably my most used die. You cannot get this particular one new any more, although you may find it on some auction websites. But any tag die set can be used instead or just use a rectangular piece of card and punch a hole in the top.
Follow the below link to find out how the tag was made
You will need
- Kraft card
- Green card
- Red glittery card
- Tag die (Mine came from Sizzix called Tag, Scallop Combo. I used the largest of the 3 dies which measures 8 . 5 cm by 4 . 5 cm)
- Red ink pad (I used Stampin Up's rose red)
- Holly leaf die (mine was bought from The Range and was a cheap die. It measures roughly 5 cm by 3 cm)
- 1 cm circle die
- Greeting stamp (I used Merry Christmas which came off the front of a magazine)
- Natural coloured string
- Glue
- Stamping aid (I use Stamparatus by Stampin up)
- Die cutting machine
- Cut out your tag shapes from Kraft card, two Holly leaves from green card per tag and 3 circles per tag from glittery red card using the 1 cm circle die
- Put your tag into your stamping aid and line up your greeting stamp along the bottom edge of your tag. Pick the stamp up with the clear side of your stamping aid, ink it with the red ink pad and stamp your tag. Repeat this for all of the tags you wish to make. (You can see from the below photo that I have not lined my tag up in the corner of the stamping aid as you should do. I sometimes find that if I put my items in the corner, the stamp doesn't work as well as it should. So instead I line my tag up with one of the plastic hinge parts - just always line it up in the same place)
- Put a little glue on the bottom of your holly leaves and attach to the tag above the wording you just stamped.
- Glue 3 red glittery circles to the tag where the holly leaves meet.
- Tie a 12cm piece of natural string through the hole in the top of the tag
These are very easy to make and if you do all of your stamping in one go then your cutting, it won't take long to make quite a few of these. Great for that last minute panic when you can't find any more tags for your gifts :)
