How to make a giftbag using We R Memory Keepers gift bag punch board
This week I needed to make some giftbags for some chocolate gifts for my work colleagues. I used the We R Memory Keepers Gift Bag Punch Board but I've added some instructions at the bottom of the blog for those of you who do not have this tool, so you can make the same thing but with a guillotine with a score blade.
The giftbag is all dressed up like Santa and is quite a good size - 15 cm high by 8 cm wide by 5 cm deep (not including handles). The main body and handles are made out of one sheet of A4 card which most of us have in our stash. I guess you could also make a snowman giftbag but make it white with black buttons for coal and a stripy scarf instead of Santa's collar.
Follow the below link to find out how the giftbag was made
You will need
- A4 Red card
- A4 Black thin card or paper
- White card
- Gold card
- 4 x small split pins (I used black ones as that's what I had in my stash)
- 2 black buttons about 1cm wide
- We R Memory Keepers GiftBag Punch Board
- Guillotine
- Scalloped edging die (I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Scallops borders die)
- Two square dies measuring 4 cm square and 2 . 5 cm square
- Small hole punch (I used We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile II, but you can pierce holes with a needle)
- Double sided tape and glue
- Cut two 1cm strips from the long edge of a piece of red A4 paper. These will be the bag handles
- Trim the remaining red card down to 28 cm by 18 cm, this will be the main body of the gift bag.
- Cut a piece of white card to 8 cm by 3 cm. This will be the collar
- Cut a strip 3cm wide from the long edge of a black A4 piece of thin card or paper. This will be the belt
- Using the two square dies, put the smaller inside the other to create a frame and cut them both at the same time out of gold card. This will be the belt buckle
- Use the We R Memory Keeper Gift Bag Punch Board to score and punch the main body of the gift bag. Line up the left edge of the red 28 cm by 18 cm card to the start line. Press the punch and then score along the medium line and the horizontal line.
- Move the medium score line just created to the start line. Punch again and this time score around the triangle and the two side lines
- Now move the 2nd side line to the start line. Punch again and score the medium and horizontal lines
- Move the medium score line just created to the start line. Punch again and score the around the triangle plus the 2 side lines
- Move the second side line to the start line and punch once more.
- Put double sided tape or glue to the back of the black belt and stick to the main giftbag 3 cm up from the horizontal fold line. Trim off any that overhangs the red giftbag main body
- Put double sided tape or glue on the back of the belt buckle and stick over the black belt as per the below photo
- Using the largest scallop die from Lawn Fawns die set to trim the very bottom off the white collar piece as per the below photos
- Glue it to the top of the front of the giftbag as per the below photo
- Mark then punch 4 holes in the main body of the giftbag on the front and back pieces 1cm down from the top edge and 1 cm in from the score lines. Also mark and punch holes in the handles, 1 cm in from both ends. See the below photos for positions
- Fold the main body of the giftbag along the score lines
- Put a piece of double sided tape along the tab piece of the main body of the giftbag (the smallest piece on the lefthand side), fold and stick to form a rectangular tube
- Fold in the base and glue in place
- Use the split pins to attach the handles to the main body giftbag so they go from front to back and look a little like a pair of braces
- Glue two black buttons on the front
You now have now finished your giftbag - just fill it with your gifts and pass it on to the recipient. Such a cool little giftbag but it's big enough, in my case, to fill with chocolate bars and candy canes for my work colleagues.
If you do not have the We R Memory Keepers gift bag punch board then on your piece of 28 cm by 18 cm card, score from the short left edge at 2 cm, 7 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm. From the long bottom edge score up at 3 cm. Cut up the 3 cm vertical score lines that are below the horizontal score line as these will need to be folded in to create the base.
