Use Lawn Fawns Special Delivery and Waving stamp and die kits to create this interactive valentine card
If you're looking for something a little different this year for your valentine card, then follow this blog where I show you how to make an interactive waving owl card. Pull the little tab at the top of the card and the owl will flap it's wings :)
Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
- Lawn Fawns Special Delivery stamp and die set
- Lawn Fawns Waving Pull Tab Starter Set
- Small heart die (I used one from Lawn Fawns You're just my type die set - about 8mm wide)
- 10 . 5 cm square die (or use a guillotine)
- 5 . 5 cm by 2 cm rectangular die (or use a guillotine)
- Red card
- White card
- Small brad
- Black ink pad (I got mine from Hobbycraft)
- Stamping aid (I use Stamparatus by Stampin Up)
- Colouring medium, 2 shades of grey, orange and a dark red (I used Promarkers - cool grey 1 and 3, honeycomb and cardinal red
- Glue, double sided tape and double sided foam tabs
- Guillotine
- Die cutting machine
- Washi tape for holding down dies whilst cutting
- Using black ink, stamp the owl, two sets of wings (the one with the small gap between each wing) and 6 envelopes/letters. Stamp some wording from the same die set into the letters. Colour in and die cut out. Use the wing die that has a hole at the top end to cut out a wing from each set of wings. Use the little V beak die to cut out around the owls beak.
- Use the 10 . 5 cm square die to cut a square from the red card. (If you don't have a die this size then just cut a 10 . 5 cm square using a guillotine)
- Use the thumb hole die from the Waving Pull Tab Starter Set to cut a thumb hole at the top of the red square just cut out. Place it in your die machine and line it up with the top of the card - use washi tape to hold it in place. Then put the white template so it lines up with the semi circle shape of the thumb hole die. Then place the slot die from the Special Delivery die set into the rectangular end of the white template and again use washi tape to hold in place. Remove the white template and run through your die cutting machine.
- Cut the pull tab from the waving die set from red card. Cut two pull tab holders from white card and one tab top (the piece with the triangle on it) from white card
- Push the small brad through the hole in the pull tab from the back to the front. Attach both wings to this brad and then open the brad legs to hold in place
- Push the wings through the slits in the red square piece of card, so the pull tab is on the back and the wings are now on the front
- Ensure the pull tab top is lined up with the top of the card. Fold the two pull tab holders along their crease lines. Put double sided tape or glue in the middle section of each and stick it to the back of the card underneath the pull tab. Ensure the glue sticks to the card not the pull tab. Put one just below the stops that stick out near the top of the pull tab and the other just below the brad. Then fold them around the pull tab and stick in place (ensure they stick to themselves and not the pull tab). They are there to ensure the pull tab moves in a straight line up and down
- Cut off the bottom of the pull tab so it doesn't show below the square card.
- Pull the pull tab upwards so it sticks above the card. Fold the tab top in half along it's crease line and glue it to the top of the pull tab
- Cut the white card to 9 inches by 4 . 5 inches and fold in half to create the base card
- Use foam pads on the back of the red square either side of the central pull tab and stick centrally to the front of the base card.
- Glue an envelope into the owls beak
- Use double sided foam pads to stick the owl between the wings on the front of the card
- Stamp 'Sending Lots of Love' onto a piece of white card and use the rectangular die and heart to cut it out
- Use double sided foam pads to attach the greeting to the bottom right of the card front
- Glue the remaining envelopes and letters randomly around the owl on the front of the card
Now if you pull the tab top (where the triangle/arrow is) up and down, the wings of the owl flap. How cool is that?
