Use Lawn Fawns 'Car Critters' and reveal wheel add on to create this 'many congratulations' card
I love cards that are shaped or move in some way - so have used Lawn Fawns Car Critters stamp and die set in addition to their reveal wheel dies to create a card that can congratulate someone on passing their driving test. Just turn the wheel and see who's driving!
The Car Critters stamp set comes with various greetings and also several number plate wordings which is great to play with. This means you can make the card for different occasions.
You will need
That's your finished card. Now if you turn the wheel you can see who is driving!
- Car Critters stamp and die set by Lawn Fawn
- Reveal Wheel Car Critters add on die
- Reveal Wheel and Reveal Wheel square add on by Lawn Fawn
- Stitched Hillside Border die by Lawn Fawn
- Many Congrats wording stamp (Mine came from How you Bean? Star Add on by Lawn Fawn)
- Birthday Banners stamp set and Bunch of Banners Framlits by Stampin Up
- Colouring medium of your choice (I used Promarkers - cool grey 5, cool grey 3, ruby, cardinal red, cinnamon, Satin, honeycomb and mustard)
- Black ink pad (Mine came from Hobbycraft)
- Die cutting machine (I use the Sizzix Bigshot)
- Stamping aid (I use Stamparatus by Stampin Up)
- Tiny brad
- Double sided foam pads and glue
- scissors, ruler and pencil
- 5 inch square white base card
- Light blue, green, black and white card
- Small cloud die (mine came form The Range but if you don't have one you can cut them freehand)
- Using the square reveal wheel die, cut out two from light blue card. Make sure one of them has the Reveal Wheel Car Critters add on car windscreen die added onto it
- Cut another square reveal wheel from green card (without the car windscreen part)
- On a piece of black card measuring 9 cm wide by 7 cm tall, find and lightly mark the centre top. measure and mark 2 . 5 cm out from this point either side. Find the centre bottom, measure and mark 4 cm out either side. Draw a line to join each of the top two 2 . 5 cm marks with their corresponding bottom 4 cm marks and cut out to create a road
- Glue the road to the green square card cut out in step 2 so the road is central and the widest part is lined up and touching the bottom of the green card
- Use a stitched hillside die to cut a curved line across the top half of the green card (roughly 5 cm up from the bottom). Keep the lower part and discard the top part
- Glue the green part, kept in step 5, to the bottom of the blue square cut out in step 1 (the one with the car windscreen cut out of it)
- Die cut the reveal wheel out of the light blue card
- Put the reveal wheel onto your stamping aid and put the corresponding template ontop. If you do not have a reveal wheel template you can create your own as I did in this blog page (Click here to find out how I did it, and use the windscreen cut out in step 1 to draw around on your template to get exact positioning for your stamps).
- Place your critter stamps upside down in the window spaces on your template. When you are happy with their positioning, pull the stamping aids plastic clear window across to pick up the stamps. Remove the template. Ink your stamps and stamp onto the reveal wheel circle.
- Colour in your critters
- If you are using the critter with the map, stamp him again onto white card. Colour in his map and cut out the map only with scissors. The reason I do this is the original critters were stamped onto blue card and I wanted a light coloured map which you cant do onto blue coloured card. I then stuck this light coloured map onto the reveal wheel ontop of the original stamped image.
- Die cut the small reveal wheel. Use a brad to go through the back of the small reveal wheel then through the back of the large reveal wheel piece. Open the legs of the brad on the front where the stamped critter images are.
- Put some double sided foam pads on the back of the small reveal wheel
- Stick the reveal wheel onto the blue square cut out in step 1 (the one without the windscreen cut out) as per my photo below. Use the front from step 6 to lay lightly ontop to ensure best positioning of the wheel so the critters show through the windscreen correctly.
- When you are happy with positioning of the reveal wheel, put lots of foam pads around the reveal wheel (ensure they don't interfere with movement of the wheel) then stick the front (from step 6) ontop ensuring all of the edges line up.
- Using black ink, stamp the car onto white card. Using your stamping aid, position a registration plate onto the car and stamp it using black ink. I chose 'URGR8T'
- Colour in the car. Stamp the car again but onto the light blue card. Cut out just the windscreen using scissors and glue it onto your coloured car. I have done this so the critters and the car have the same blue coloured background.
- Using the car die and windscreen die, cut out the car
- Using foam pads attach the car to the front of the card so the windscreens perfectly line up
- Now glue this centrally to the front of the 5 inch square base card
- Die cut 3 small clouds from white card and attach to the card over-laping the coloured sky with the base card using foam pads
- Die cut the arrow from the reveal wheel die set and stick to the base card near the edge of the reveal wheel
- Cut out some thin strips of white card to make road markings (about 3 mm wide by 1 cm long) and stick to the centre of the road
- I used the single banner from the Birthday Banners stamp set and stamped it onto white card with black ink. I put it into my stamping aid with a piece of acetate ontop. I then took the 'Many Congrats' greeting from the How you Bean? Star add on stamp set and placed it over the banner where I wanted to stamp it. By putting the acetate on first, the stamp sticks to it so you can curve the stamp ever so slightly so it bends in the direction of the banner shape. Pull the plastic clear sheet of your stamping aid over to pick up the stamp. Remove the acetate. Ink your stamp and stamp onto the banner. Die cut out the banner
- Using foam pads attach the greeting banner to the bottom of the card
