Make an everlasting bouquet of flowers for mum for mothers day
I love making things from paper and card - not just greeting cards, so this week I was very excited when I made this everlasting jar of flowers. I used Stampin Up's 'Jar of Love' stamp and die set.
It doesn't have to be a mothers day gift, with different coloured flowers it could be table decorations for a wedding. It can be folded flat so can also be posted making it a great birthday gift too.
Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
- Stampin Up's Jar of Love stamp set
- Stampin Up's Everyday Jars Framlits dies
- White card
- Light green and dark green card
- Grey, pink, red, yellow and purple ink pads (I used Stampin up's smokey slate, melon mambo, rose red, delightful dijon and perfect plum)
- Stamping aid (I use Stamparatus by Stampin Up)
- Die cutting machine (I use the Sizzix Bigshot)
- Acetate
- Washi tape
- Glue, double sided tape and double sided foam pads
- Guillotine with cutting and scoring blades
- Cut two bits of white card measuring 9 cm high by 8 cm wide each. Score and fold each piece in half across it's width so you end up with a piece that's 9 cm high by 4 cm wide
- Put one of these onto your die cutting machine with the fold line on the left and place the tallest jar die ontop with the left edge of the die overhanging the fold line of the card (this will ensure the fold line doesn't get cut). Place the internal jar die inside the jar die and use a piece of washi tape to hold the dies in place. Run it through your die cutting machine. Do the same to the other piece.
- Place your folded die cut jar onto your stamping aid and place magnets either side of them. Place the matching jar stamp ontop to line it up with your die cut. Pick the stamp up with the clear tab on the stamping aid. Ink it with the grey ink pad and stamp onto the die cut. Turn your folded die cut over and stamp the jar onto the other side. Do this with the other die cut jar on both sides
- Using the tallest jar die, die cut 4 jars out of acetate
- Glue the acetate jars onto the back of the die cut card jars
- Using the dark and light green card, cut lots of stems using the dies from the Everyday Jars Framlits set (You will need at least 32 stems)
- Put a piece of double sided tape on the neck of each jar on the back. Place 8 green stems onto each piece of tape so it looks like the stems are in the jar but peeking out of the top
- Using the pink ink pad, stamp 4 bows and die cut them out
- Using the pink, red, purple and yellow ink pads, stamp lots of flowers onto white card. Most of the flowers in the Jar of Love stamp set are double stamps. You can stamp the full flower first then stamp the inside parts of the flower ontop. For the full flower stamps, I inked up the stamp and did the first stamp onto scrap paper. This ensures that when I do not re-ink the stamp but stamp it onto card now, I will get a lighter colour flower. (see the photo images below) I can then use the same coloured ink pad to stamp the inside flower part - by inking it and stamping straight onto the card flower, without stamping it on scrap paper first, it is a darker ink colour. Die cut the flowers. (I stamped 24 flowers)
Ink the main flower stamp Stamp on scrap paper Don't re-ink but stamp again on card Ink the inner flower stamp Stamp ontop of the flower Ink and stamp the stamen - Glue flowers randomly onto the green stems showing above the top of the jam jars. Using double sided foam pads attach a bow to the top of each jam jar
- Cut two pieces of white card measuring 4 cm high by 1 cm wide. Score each of these in half so you end up with pieces of folded card 4 cm high by 0 . 5 cm wide
- Put thin double sided tape, or glue on the back of each of these thin bits of folded card. Stick them to the jar edges on the back to join the two pieces together to form a cube
This is your finished jar of flowers - no need to worry about forgetting to water them :) . It stands up unaided but can be folded flat to post to a recipient. Enjoy your creation.
