Use a little bit of paper cutting to make this pretty mothers day card
I printed the word 'MUM' on some paper and then cut it out to make this card. You could use dies to cut out letters or even a computer attached cutting machine if you have one. I used the relief so you can see the pretty paper through the letters that have been cut out. Don't throw out the letters, these can be used as mats to stamp around (click here to see a card made with a mat).
I have made this into a Mum card, but actually you could make a card with any word and hence for any occasion.
Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
- White A4 card x 2
- Patterned paper (I used sheets of paper from 'Frosted Floral' DSP from Stampin Up)
- An ink pad that would complement your patterned paper
- Happy Mothers Day greeting stamp (I used the one from Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set by Stampin Up)
- Stitched Scalloped Borders by Lawn Fawn
- MUM template - click here
- Stamping Aid (I use the Stamparatus by Stampin Up)
- Die Cutting Machine (I use the Bigshot by Sizzix)
- Craft knife and self healing cutting mat
- Guillotine
- Glue or double sided tape
- Cut a piece of white card to 14 . 9 by 21 cm and fold it in half to create your C6 base card
- Cut a piece of your patterned paper to 14 . 9 cm by 10 . 5 cm and stick it to the front of your base card
- Print the template onto white card (It will print two on one sheet but you actually only need one). I made my template in Microsoft Publisher and you are free to use my template. However if you want to create your own just use whatever package you have in your computer which will let you insert large lettering. Just don't pick a font that is too thin or fancy as you will need to be able to cut it out. Also turn your font around so it prints backwards - this means you will cut the font out on the back and hence any print lines still showing after your cut will be on the reverse and not seen from the front of your card.
- Use a craft knife to cut out the lettering. You will be cutting the letters out and using what is left behind for your card, so be careful not to cut into the surround
- There is a feint light grey line around the word MUM - use your guillotine to cut this out. It will leave you with a rectangle 14 . 9 cm wide by 7 cm high
- The first photo below shows the surround after the letters have been cut out. The second photo shows the same piece of card turned around so the back is now the front. The font is now the right way around and any print lines left after cutting are now on the back.
Backward lettering Flip the card over, now the font is showing correct way round.
(It doesn't matter too much for MUM as it looks right either way but it wouldn't work for DAD) - On the white MUM rectangle, use a scalloped border die to cut a fancy edge top and bottom
- Use your stamping aid to stamp the 'Happy Mothers Day' greeting just below the cut out MUM lettering
- Glue this white panel centrally onto your base card
I've made two so you can see how different background papers look through the lettering. I thought it worked well with a bold colour and not too patterned.
