How to use Stampin Up's Beautiful Trees dies set to make a beautiful greeting card
I just got myself the Beautiful Trees die set from Stampin Up as I think it will be a classic die that I can use lots to make a variety of greeting cards. This week I needed to make a card for a man, so had a play with the die set to see what I could do.
This is the card I came up with. I've been wanting to do a square card with part of it cut a way for a while and this fit perfectly. I've used the dies and the corresponding designer papers which make it really easy to create the leaves of the tree.
Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
- Beautiful Trees Dies by Stampin Up
- Beauty of the Earth designer series paper
- Green ink pad (I used evening evergreen ink pad by Stampin Up)
- Brown, white and blue card
- Die cutting machine (I use Bigshot by Sizzix)
- Double sided foam pads and glue
- Guillotine with cutting blade
- 5 inch square white base card
- Greeting stamp (I used 'Have a Special day' from an old set called Stick N Stamp by Rubbadubbadoo)
- Cut the front of the base card diagonally from top left corner to bottom right corner
- Cut a piece of sky patterned paper (from the designer paper pack) to 4 . 5 inches square and glue to the inside back of the base card
- Die cut the large tree from brown card, a set of two birds from blue card and the large tree foliage from some green mottled paper (from the paper pack)
- Stick the tree base and foliage to the base card front using double sided foam pads. The top of the tree will show above the triangle cut away in step 1. I cut some of the double sided foam pads down to make smaller ones that would sit behind the tree branches. Any that show to the back can have a tiny piece of the mottled card stuck onto them so they don't stick to the back of the card.
- Stamp your greeting onto white card using the green ink pad, then cut it out using the smaller rectangle die from the die set (depending on the size of your greeting you may need to use a different die or cut it out with a guillotine)
- Cut a rectangle slightly larger than your greeting rectangle out of the mottled green paper from the patterned paper pack
- Using double sided foam pads stick the greeting to the mottled rectangle and attach it to the lower right front of your card. (Make sure you do not put any foam pads that will show above the card front)
- Stick the two birds to the card using double sided foam pads - one in the tree and the other on your greeting
If your greeting card is for an autumn celebration, you could use the reddish mottled patterned paper instead of the green that I used in this example. Trees are a very flexible image and can be used for lots of different occasions - just the branch in black or dark brown would set the base for a great Halloween card or cover the tree in snow for a winter or Christmas card.
Enjoy and have fun crafting
