Make a template and then stamp within it to create this unusual birthday card
I've created a star template and rather than just sponge some paint into the template to create the shape, I have stamped 'Happy Birthday' several times. Remove the template and you have a star that's made up of 'Happy Birthdays'. How cool is that?
It doesn't have to be a star, it can be any shape but for best effect try and keep the shape a simple one. Likewise you could use any greeting within your template. For example you could do the star with 'Merry Christmas', a balloon shape with 'Happy Birthday' or a bell shape with 'Congratulations on your wedding'.
I've stamped all but one of the greetings in blue and used a contrasting red just for one to emphasise it. You could just do them all one colour or maybe do them all different colours, maybe going through the rainbow, top to bottom.
Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
- White base card measuring 15 cm wide by 10 cm tall
- White printer paper
- White and blue card
- 'Happy Birthday' greeting stamp (Mine came from 'Itty Bitty Greetings' stamp set by Stampin Up)
- Tiny star stamp (I used one from 'Tidings and Trimmings' stamp set by Stampin Up)
- Small clear stamping block
- Star shaped die about 7 . 5 cm (I used the one from the 'Christmas Trimmings' die set by Stampin Up, but you can print one and use a craft knife to cut it out)
- Blue and Red ink pads (I used island indigo and rose red by Stampin Up)
- 2 Bunting flag dies, one measuring 13 . 5 cm by 8 . 5 cm and the second measuring 11 . 5 cm by 7 . 5 cm (You can manually cut them if you don't have the dies)
- Thin piece of blue ribbon
- Washi tape
- Double sided tape
- Die cutting machine
- Using the smaller bunting flag die, cut one out of printer paper. Use thin paper as if it's too thick it will stop you getting a nice stamped image
- Cut a star out of the middle of this bunting flag. The bunting flag with the removed star is now your template
- Cut the smaller bunting flag out of a piece of white card.
- Using low tack washi tape, tape the template over the white card bunting flag
- Put the happy birthday greeting stamp onto the stamping block and ink with the blue ink pad. Start at the top of your template and work downwards stamping your happy birthday across the star cut out. Leave one space, near the centre, for stamping a red happy birthday. Ensure your stamping goes over the edge of the star cut out to get a really good star shape and don't start all the left edges with the 'happy' part of the stamp
- Once you have covered it all with blue happy birthdays, clean the stamp, ink it with the red ink pad and stamp the last happy birthday in the gap left in point 5
- Remove the template, you will now have a card bunting flag with a Happy Birthday star in the centre
- Cut the larger bunting flag out of blue card
- Use double sided tape to attach the white bunting flag centrally onto the blue bunting flag
- Attach a piece of thin blue ribbon down the left hand side of both
- Stamp blue small stars over the front of your base card
- Use double sided tape to stick the left edge of the bunting flags to the folded left edge of the base card
This technique makes quite a simple looking, but effective greeting card. You do not need to put much else onto the card and the only red Happy Birthday stands out quite well.
