Scalloped Circle Stamping Aid Template

How to make and use a scalloped template to create a fabulous design for a greeting card

My mind got thinking after last weeks blog (a square template for a stamping aid), whether I could do other shaped templates. Well the answer is YES! I got playing with a scalloped edged circle die and created this really fab card:
scalloped circle template created for the Stamparatus

The circle really needs to have a scalloped edge so you can move it round methodically and equally to stamp the same image again and again creating a pattern. You could possibly use a plain circle but you would need to draw feint pencil lines breaking it up into slices like a cake so you can get equally spaced stamped images around it - then rub out the lines when the ink was dry.

I had help this week with my crafting - or should I say hinderance - it's very difficult to stamp one handed! This is my dog - she's over a year old now but does like a cuddle!

Anyway I did manage to get her settled in her basket so I could continue with the blog in hand ..... If you missed last weeks blog on the square template you can click here to have a quick read.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • White and dark pink card
  • Small amount of dark pink patterned paper (I used a piece from the 'All My Love' designer paper pack by Stampin Up)
  • Dark pink and green ink pads (I used rose red and mossy meadow by Stampin Up)
  • Scalloped circle die measuring about 8 cm in diameter (It really needs to have an even number of scallops around the edge. Mine has 18)
  • Scalloped edge die (Mine came with my Sizzix machine)
  • Leaf stamp about 3 cm in length (I used a leaf stem stamp from 'I like you alotl' stamp set by Lawn Fawn)
  • Small flower stamp about 1 . 5 cm in diameter (I used a flower stamp from 'Beautiful Bouquet' stamp set by Stampin Up)
  • Greeting stamp (I used Happy Birthday from 'Beautiful Bouquet' stamp set by Stampin Up)
  • Stamping aid (I used Stamparatus by Stampin Up but you can use any stamping aid such as Misti)
  • Versa mark ink pad
  • White embossing powder
  • Heat gun
  • Glue and double sided foam pads

  1. Cut a piece of A4 white card in half and use one of them to create the template by die cutting the scalloped circle out of it. Keep the scalloped circle cut out for later
cut a scalloped circle about 8cm diam out of a piece of A5 card

  2. Place the template into the stamping aid - into the top right hand corner - and pin it down with the magnets
Place the template into the Stamparatus and hold down with magnets

  3. Place the scalloped circle cut out in step 1 into the template and line the leaf stamp as per the below photo (I've put a pencil arrow at the top and I will keep lining up the scalloped edge that I wish to stamp with this mark). Make sure the flat surface of the stamp is facing up and it is lining up with one of the scalloped bits around the edge of the circle
Line up leaf stamp (from I like you Alotl by Lawn Fawn) to first scalloped edge

  4. Pick the stamp up with the plastic tab of the stamping aid, ink it with green ink and stamp onto the circle. If your circle comes up with the stamp, just remove it gently and place back into the template. Do not remove the stamp at this stage.
Stamp leaf stamp using green ink

  5. Move the scalloped circle around skipping one of the scalloped edges as the below photo. Re-ink the stamp with green ink and stamp again.
Move scalloped circle around in template missing one scalloped edge

    Stamp the leaf again

  6. Keep moving the scalloped circle around missing a scalloped edge in between each stamp until you have stamped right around your circle. Mine had 18 scalloped edges so I have stamped 9 leaves. Clean the stamp and remove it from the stamping aid
Keep moving the circle round and stamping until you are back to the beginning again

  7. Now move the scalloped circle, within the template, so a scalloped edge in between the stamped leaves is at the top where the pencil arrow is. Line up the flower stamp with flat back upwards in the gap as per the below photo.
Now put a flower stamp into the stamparatus

  8. Pick the stamp up with the plastic tab of the stamping aid, ink the stamp with the dark pink ink pad and stamp onto the scalloped circle.
Stamp onto the scalloped circle then move the circle round to stamp the next one

  9. Turn the scalloped circle within the template so you miss the next scalloped edge but the next blank edge is towards the top. Ink the stamp and stamp again. Keep going round the circle filling in the gaps between the leaves
Stamp a flower in-between each leaf

  10. Stamp a flower onto a scrap of white card and cut it out.
Stamp a single flower on separate piece of white card and cut out

  11. Create a 5" square base card out of dark pink card by cutting a rectangle from a piece of card measuring 10" by 5". Fold in half to create the card base.

  12. Place the card into your stamping aid so you can line up the greeting stamp in the bottom right hand corner.
Line up greeting lower right hand side of base card in Stamparatus

  13. Ink the stamp with a versamark ink pad and stamp onto the card.
    stamp with Versamark ink pad

  14. Cover the stamped greeting with embossing powder, knock off the excess and then heat with a heat gun to melt the powder
    Cover immediately with embossing powder

    Knock off excess embossing powder

Use heat gun to heat the embossing powder

  15. Cut a piece of dark pink patterned paper to 5" high by 1" wide. Die cut a scalloped edge using a die out of white card and cut to 5" high. Glue the scalloped edge to the right side of the patterned paper and then attach both to the left hand edge of the base card
Cur piece of patterned card 5" by 1" and a scalloped edge strip

Glue scalloped edge strip to right hand side of patterned card

  16. Use double sided foam pads to attach the scalloped stamped circle to the right hand side of the card. Use double sided foam pads to attach the single flower to the centre of the circle
Attach patterned strip to left side of card and scalloped circle to right hand side

The template can be used again and again to create other cards. Just cut out a scalloped circle that will fit into your template. I did try a small Happy Birthday greeting stamp instead of the leaves to create a pattern on the scalloped circle but it wasn't quite what I had imagined for this blog, but I am sure I will use it for another project. I thought I'd attach a photo to give you some further ideas:
