Peek-a-Boo Cat

Use Crafters Companions clever Peek-a-Boo Cat stamp and die set to create this unique card

I fell in love with this set as soon as I saw it. There are lots of different animal sets to choose from and you get lots of sentiments to match the character.

What I love the most is that the little character is peering over the window in the front of the card but if you open the card you can see their back inside the card - as if they are looking out.
The cats body can be seen inside the card - looking out!

It just adds that extra depth and something special to your card. I've only just got this stamp and die set so have made a basic card with it to show you today but hope to play with it soon to see what else can be done with the one set.

In the stamp and die set you get lots of stamp sentiments plus the dies to cut out the word 'purrfect' and the cats head. In order to cut out the rest of the window you will need another die set called 'Window Arches'. If you are clever with a craft knife you could manually cut a window shape. However, if you intend to buy several of the little character stamp and die sets, you could invest in the window arches set too, as they work with all the characters.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • Peek-A-Boo Cat stamp and die set by Crafters Companion
  • Window Arches die set by Crafters Companion
  • Thick white A4 card
  • Patterned card or paper (I used a couple of pieces from 'Lovely Mystery' 12 x 12 scrapbooking paper pad by Craft Sensations)
  • Black ink pad
  • Coloured ink pad to match your papers (I used perfect plum ink pad by Stampin Up)
  • Colouring medium of your choice (I used Promarker pens - cool grey 1 and 2, oatmeal, amethyst, sandstone and baby pink)
  • Guillotine with cutting and scoring blades
  • Die cutting machine
  • Stamping aid - assists with matching the stamp to the die cut, but not essential (I use the Stamparatus by Stamping Up)
  • Craft knife and metal ruler
  • Glue and double sided foam pads

  1. Cut an 11 inch by 5 . 5 inch rectangle from white card and fold it in half to form a 5 . 5 inch square card

  2. Cut two pieces of different patterned paper to 5 1/4 inch square. One will be on the front of the card and the other will be inside the card but will be seen through the window on the front of the card
5.5" white square base card and two patterned papers measuring 5 1/4 inch each

  3. Put a small dot of glue, centre front on the base card and put the patterned paper that will be on the front ontop centrally. The glue is to hold the two layers together whilst you cut the window shape out. I tried holding the layers with washi tape but it kept ripping my patterned card when I went to take it off
Put a dot of glue centrally on front of base card

Put patterned paper centrally on to base card front

  4. I used the arched window die for this card. Just lay the arched window die on the front of the base card and hold it down with a bit of low tack tape as per the below photo (keep the back of the card out of the way)
Put arch die from Crafters Companions Window Arches centrally on front of card

  5. Run it through your die cutting machine. You can now gently remove the patterned paper away from the base card. Do not worry if the card or paper slightly rips where the glue was, as this middle piece will be cut away and not needed
remove patterned paper gently from front of card

  6. On the patterned paper with the part cut out window, use your craft knife and metal ruler to cut a straight line across at the bottom of the arched window to create an arched gap in your paper as per the below photo:
Cut straight line across patterned card to remove arched window

    Shows arch removed

  7. On the base card at the bottom of the arched window you need to line up the cat and Purrfect dies so they create the straight line across. I held mine in place with a little bit of washi tape. Run it through your die cutting machine
Line up cat and Purrfect dies along bottom of arch on base card

  8. Because the cat and Purrfect dies do not join you will probably always get a small part that doesn't cut out as indicated with the red arrow in the below photo. Just use your craft knife to cut the lines so the window can be popped out
Use a craft knife for any bits that haven't cut through

Front of base card with window arch, cats head and word purrfect cut out

  9. Using black ink, stamp the cat body on the inside of the card so the head matches the cat back of the cat head that was cut in step 8. Stamp the cat face using black ink onto a piece of white card. Colour in these images. It doesn't matter if whilst colouring in the cat body your inks bleed through to the front of the card as this will be covered up later

  10. Glue the inside patterned card cut out in step 2 to the inside of the card
Glue patterned paper to inside back of card

  11. Glue the front patterned card, with the arched window cut out, to the front of the base card matching up the cut out windows
Glue patterned paper with arch window removed to front of card

  12. Use the cat face die to cut out the cat's face you coloured in step 9. It only cuts around the top of the cat so you need to use some scissors or a craft knife to cut around his paws and lower face as shown in the below photos
Use cat die to cut out cats head

Die will only cut around top of head

Use a craft knife to cut around lower head and paws

  13. Use double sided foam pads to attach the cat face to the cat on the front of the card
Use double sided foam pads to attach to front of base card

  14. Stamp 'Have a' and 'Birthday' onto white card using black ink. Cut into banner shapes and then use an ink pad that matches your paper to ink the edges of the banners. Use double sided foam pads to attach them to your base card
Stamp 'have a' and 'birthday' onto white card then cut into banner shapes

Using double sided foam pads attach the banners to the base card

I love the fact the cat can be seen on the inside of the card looking out.
