I'll show you how to make this glorious Christmas gift tag using Stampin Up's Tidings and Trimmings set
This week I have made a gift tag for a Christmas present, however it could as easily be used on the front of a greeting card instead as a topper.
I love the papers that match with this stamp and die set - 'Tidings of Christmas'. It may only be a 6 x 6 inch designer paper pad but you can make it go a long way by using a few tricks. This time I have used a fancy rectangular die to cut the tag shape and the second one which looks bigger as it sticks above the first one, is actually the same size - just cut it in half and glued to the top and bottom of the first tag shape. The back is covered with just plain white card for your greeting. No-one is the wiser that you haven't used a bigger piece of card!
The colours of the paper pad all match, so you don't have to use the exact papers I have, just go with which ones you prefer. Why not make a bunch of them all slightly different.
Follow the below link to find out how the tag was made
You will need
- Tidings and Trimmings stamp and die set by Stampin Up
- Tidings of Christmas designer series paper by Stampin Up
- Fancy edged rectangular die measuring about 8 cm by 5 . 5 cm
- White card
- Red, light and dark green card (I used card from Stampin Up - cherry cobbler, soft succulent and evening evergreen)
- Dark green ink pad (I used evening evergreen by Stampin Up)
- Versamark ink pad
- White embossing powder (I used Wow embossing powder - Opaque bright white)
- Heat gun
- Small amount of thin red ribbon
- Small red gem
- Die cutting machine
- Hole punch
- Glue and double sided foam pads
- Using the fancy edged rectangular die cut one from white card and two from patterned papers. Cut one of the patterned paper rectangles in half. You should then have the following:
- Stamp 'To and From' plus a greeting onto the white card rectangle using dark green ink
- Glue the cut rectangle to the back at the top and bottom of the full patterned rectangle. I glued the bottom one about 1 cm from the edge and the top about 2 cm away from the edge (this allows extra room for the hole punch that we will do later)
- Glue the white rectangle centrally on the reverse
- Use a hole punch to make a hole in the top of the tag
- Stamp a stocking from the stamp set onto red card using the versamark ink pad. Cover the stamp with the white embossing powder, knock off the excess and then heat with the heatgun until the powder melts.
- Die cut out the stocking
- Using more dies from the set, cut out two leaf branches from light green card and a sprig and a set of holly leaves from dark green card. Cut two sets of berries from red card
- Glue the berries to the sprig
- Glue the holly leaves and add a red gem to the stocking
- Glue the two leaf branches and the sprig to the tag as per the following photo. Use the stocking as a guide so it looks like the branches are coming out of the top of the stocking
- Use the double sided foam pads to attach the stocking to the tag
- Tie the ribbon through the hole in the top of the tag
That is your tag made. You could mount it onto a base card instead to make a fab Christmas greeting card or omit the hole and attach it to your cracker fronts. (For a guide on making your own crackers click here)
