Christmas Gift Pocket

Make a simple cute pocket for gifts out of a piece of 12 x 12 scrapbooking paper

How cute is this little gift pocket? It is made from just one sheet of 12 x 12 inch scrapbooking card and only requires minimal folding.

They can be made to hold your gifts or maybe make a batch of them for table gifts. I also made one out of a piece of 6 x 6 inch paper and added a piece of string so it can hang on my Christmas tree - this one is super cute and I'll attach a photo to the bottom of this blog page.

Follow the below link to find out how the gift pocket was made

You will need
  • Sheet of 12 x 12 inch scrapbooking paper - double sided if you have it (I used a sheet from 'Let it Snow' by artstudio - mine was single sided but I'll show you how to use it if you don't have double sided paper)
  • Snow Place stamp set by Stampin Up
  • Snow Friends die set by Stampin Up
  • Two scalloped oval dies - larger one measuring about 10 cm by 7 cm and the smaller one measuring about 9 cm by 6 cm
  • Blue and brown ink pads (I used Stampin Up ink pads - bordering blue and soft suede)
  • Silver, blue and white card
  • Orange colouring pencil
  • 1cm wide blue ribbon
  • Stapler
  • Double sided tape, glue and double sided foam pads
  • Die cutting machine

  1. If you have double sided paper then move onto step 2. Mine was only one sided so I stamped snowflakes (from the stamp set) onto the back of the paper using the blue ink pad. Just check that the ink isn't showing through to the front of your patterned paper

Back of paper is plain so stamp snowflakes on it
The back is plain so stamp blue snowflakes all over it

Back of paper is now covered in snowflakes
This is the finished 'plain' side once I'd stamped snowflakes all over

  2. Fold the square of scrapbooking paper in half - corner to corner to make a triangle with the main pattern of the paper being on the outside.
fold paper corner to corner so it forms a triangle

  3. Fold the right hand point across the triangle so it touches the other side as per the below photo. Press the crease firmly
Keep straight edge at bottom. fold right point across to meet at opposite edge

  4. Unfold and add double sided tape as per the below photo (shown by the red tape)
unfold and put double sided tape on right triangle edge

  5. Re-fold again so it now sticks down

  6. Now fold the left hand point across so it touches the opposite side as per the below photo

  7. Unfold and add double sided tape as per the below photo

  8. Re-fold again so it now sticks down
refold so it now sticks down

  9. At the top there are two points. Fold the front one down so it folds at the point where the other previous two folds crossed the main body
Fold the top front triangle down

  10. Unfold it, add double sided tape and re-fold to stick down

You have now completed your pocket and it should open as per the below photo's.

To decorate it with the snowman as per the one I have done, carry on and follow the below steps. However at this point you can decorate it with what ever you have in your crafting stash.
  1. Use the largest oval die and cut one from silver card, then use the smaller oval die to cut one from blue card
die cut larger oval out of silver card and smaller oval out of blue card

  2. Fold a piece of ribbon in half and staple it to the left side of the blue oval
Staple a piece of ribbon to left hand side of blue oval

  3. Stick the blue oval centrally ontop of the silver oval
glue blue oval centrally to silver oval

  4. Stamp the larger snowman using the blue ink pad and two arms using the brown ink pad. Colour in the snowmans nose and die cut them all out
stamp and die cut snowman and arms

  5. Use double sided foam pads to stick the snowman centrally onto the blue oval
Use double sided foam pads to stick snowman to blue oval

  6. Glue the snowmans arms to his body
    Glue arms to snowman

  7. Using double sided foam pads, stick the silver oval to the front of the pocket slightly to the right of centre
Use double sided foam pads to attach oval to pocket

  8. Trim the ribbon ends
trim ribbon ends so they don't stick out from pocket

I made a smaller pocket using 6 x 6 inch patterned paper. I followed the above steps but at step 9, I layed some bakers twine across the pocket and when I folded the top triangle down, the twine was caught underneath. I then tied this string at the top to form a hanging loop for the pocket. This is a super cute pocket that could be hung on your Christmas tree.
