Snowman Gift Wrapper

Create this gift wrapper in the shape of a snowman to hold a small gift or some chocolate or sweets.

This cute little character is made from mainly white card with a few scraps of coloured card and some random buttons. I thought it made a lovely wrapping solution for a small gift. It's another one of those items I remembered seeing online or in a magazine somewhere and have always wanted to make one. I think he turned out really well and is very cute.
Snowman gift wrapper made form white card, decorated with coloured buttons

If you don't have random buttons or some of the dies I have used to decorate him, then just use what you have in your craft stash. Why not add snowflakes instead of the buttons or holly leaves?

You could add the recipients name to a tag coming out of his hat band and use them as name places for your Christmas table.

Follow the below link to find out how the gift wrapper was made

You will need
  • White A4 card
  • Small amount of black, brown, green and orange card
  • Small amount of Christmas patterned paper/card
  • 30 cm length of 1 cm wide ribbon (You could use string or yarn if you don't have ribbon)
  • 4 buttons (I used 4 random buttons in a mixture of red and green colours. If you don't have buttons you can use gems or just punched circles)
  • Holly leaf die (I used ones from Christmas Trimmings die set by Stampin Up)
  • Branch die (I used one from Petals and More die set by Stampin Up)
  • Rounding corner punch
  • 1/2 inch round punch or die
  • Hole punch
  • Guillotine with cutting and scoring blade
  • Envelope board (I will show you how else to do the cuts if you don't have one of these)
  • Glue and double sided tape

  1. Cut a piece of white A4 card to measure 29 . 7 cm by 7 cm

  2. Score from one of the short edges at 16 cm and 18 cm. (You will now have 3 sections on the piece of white card - a longer first section. This will be the front. A very short middle piece between the two score lines - this will be the base and the last section will be the back)
Cut white card to 7 cm by 29.7cm. Score at 16 cm and 18cm

  3. If you don't have an envelope score board, scroll down to the bottom of this blog to see how to do these notches, otherwise continue:  Put the front section into the envelope board to the 5 . 5 cm mark. Press the punch button. Flip the piece of white card over so the front section is back against the 5 . 5 cm mark. Press the punch button again. You will then have two cut outs on the front section opposite each other
Use envelope board to cut some notches to form the neck

    Cut notches opposite each other

  4. Now move the white card along so the back short edge is under the punch button and the second fold line (18 cm) is against the 10 . 5 cm mark. Press the punch button. Flip the white card over to punch the opposite edge by again lining the 18 cm fold line against the 10 . 5 cm mark. Press the punch button. You will now have two more punched out sections quite close to the back edge
Cut notches at the other end

Put the 18cm fold line against the 10.5cm mark on score board

    Put notches opposite each other

The white card strip will now have 4 notches cut out and two fold lines
Sections from left to right - head, body, base (between the two score lines) and back

  5. Out of black card cut two rectangles - one measuring 6 cm tall by 7 cm wide and the other one measuring 2 cm tall by 9 cm wide. Use the rounding corner punch to round the top two corners of the 6 x 7 rectangle and round all corners of the 2 x 9 rectangle. These will form the snowman's hat
Cut two black rectangles to form the hat

  6. Cut a rectangle measuring 3 cm tall by 7 cm wide out of patterned paper or card - this will be the snowman's hat band

  7. Glue the patterned hat band to the base of the 6 x 7 cm black rectangle so the bottom edges align
Glue a patterned hat band to the top hat part

  8. Glue the 2 x 9 cm rectangle ontop of the patterned hat band so the base edges meet up and it overhangs 1 cm on each side
Glue the brim ontop of the patterned band

  9. Die cut two holly leaves and stick on the snowman's hat

  10. Glue a red button just below the holly leaves
Glue two holly leaves and a button onto band of hat

  11. Glue the hat to the front of the snowman so it goes over the top of his head by 1 cm
    Glue hat to snowman head

  12. Punch two 1/2 inch circles from black card and stick to the snowman's face as eyes
Cut two black circles for eyes and glue to face

  13. Use the hole punch to punch two circles from white card. Glue them to the top of the snowman's eyes
Use hole punch to cut two tiny white circles and glue to eyes

  14. Cut a rectangle from orange card measuring 1 cm tall by 2 cm wide. Cut this triangle in half as per the below photo then stick one of them to the snowman's face below the eyes to be his nose
Cut an orange rectangle in half diagonally to create his nose

    Glue nose to snowman's face

  15. Use the hole punch to cut 5 circles from black card. Glue them to the snowman's face to form a smile
Use hole punch to cut 5 small black circles for snowmans smile. Glue to face

  16. Glue 3 buttons down the snowman's front
Glue 3 buttons to snowman's tummy

  17. Die cut two branches from brown card and glue behind the snowman's body
Die cut two branches and glue to body for arms

  18. Add some double sided tape to the inside of the back section and attach your gift - I added two Cadbury Dairy Milks from multipacks (they are smaller than ones sold individually)
Put double sided tape on inside to stick gift to

Stick on your gift - in my case 2 cadbury dairy milks

  19. Fold the snowman and wrap the ribbon around the back through the notches cut out in steps 3 and 4 and tie into a bow at the front. This holds the snowman together and lets the recipient open the gift
Fold snowman at score lines to encase the gift

Tie ribbon around neck and form a bow on the front

If you don't have the envelope punch board to make the notches which forms the snowman's neck, you can use a small square die as follows:

Measure and mark with a pencil at 5 . 5 cm from the top front short edge.  At this point measure in 1 cm from edge.  Now put the square die so it's point is on the 1 cm mark and the other pencil mark is central within the square die as per the below photo's.  Die cut.
put light pencil mark at 10.5cm from top end and 1 cm inwards

Line up square die on the pencil marks

At the other end you need to measure 10 . 5 cm from the 18cm fold line.  Then measure 1 cm in from the edge at that point.  Again line the point of a square die with the 1 cm mark and the other pencil mark on the edge needs to be centrally within the square die as per the below photos:
At other end, mark at 10.5cm form 18cm score line and 1cm inwards

Line small square die up with pencil marks and run through cutting machine

Remember you need to do the die cutting on both edges to get this shape:
You'll end up with head, body front, base (between score lines) and back parts to your white strip

If you don't have a die then just cut a triangle at that those points where a square die would have cut.
