This is a great card to use up small amounts of patterned card or paper
I'm playing with my new toy - a banner punch today to use up scraps of patterned card to make quite a simple birthday card.
I used the banner punch to cut out the triangles in the bottom of each bunting flag. I used to do this with my scissors and just eyeing up whether I got the right angle on my cuts, but this punch is so much easier!
I don't know about you, but I hang on to all scraps of pretty card and paper and it's lovely to use up these small pieces. For this card, you only need pieces maximum 1 inch wide and 2 inches long.
Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
- White A6 base card
- Patterned card or paper (I used some sheets from 'Neutrals' 6"x6" DSP by Stampin Up)
- Guillotine with cutting blade
- Black ink pad
- Happy Birthday greeting stamp (mine came from the 'sweet ice cream' stamp set by Stampin Up)
- Banner Punch (mine is by Hunkydory but if you don't have a punch you can just use scissors to cut by hand)
- Black fine line pen
- Glue
- Stamping aid (I use Stamparatus by Stampin up. It helps to line up the greeting but you can stamp with just a clear block)
- Cut 5 strips of patterned card/paper to 1 inch wide and 5 strips to 3/4 inch wide
- Use the banner punch to cut the triangles out of the end of each strip. My Banner punch smallest alignment slot is 1.5 inch, so my strips of card are smaller. If this is the case you just have to eyeball to get your strip centrally in the slot of the punch
- Trim the 1 inch wide strips to 2 inch in length and the 3/4 inch strips to 1 3/4 inch in length
- Glue the 3/4 inch wide strips ontop of the larger strips so their short straight edge matches the short straight edge of the 1 inch strips at the top
- Glue the banners to the base card as per the below photo
- Stamp the greeting with black ink below the banner flags on the base card - use a stamping aid to align the greeting if you have one
- Use the fine line black pen to draw little ties at the left and right edge of the banner
That is your card complete. I've used matching papers but you can use any scraps of papers you have. I think it looks best if you have plain-ish card/paper as the larger strip and a patterned one for the smaller strip.
