Sending Smiles

Use Lawn Fawns Virtual Friends add on dies and stamp sets to make this card for an office worker

I treated myself to some new Lawn Fawn stamp and die sets and this virtual friends add on set was one of them. I had an instant idea to have an office chair that could wheel up and down your card - how fun would that be?
Use Lawn Fawns Virtual Friends stamp and die sets to make this interactive card

This card could be used for a birthday, for someone leaving or starting a new job, a retirement or just to say hi to someone.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made
You will need
  • White A5 base card
  • White card
  • Spotty purple card (I used a sheet from Dots and Stripes Confection 6x6 paper pack by My Favourite Things)
  • Black ink pad (I used Jet Black ink pad by Lawn Fawn)
  • Virtual Friends Stamp and die set by Lawn Fawn
  • Virtual Friends add-on stamp and die set by Lawn Fawn
  • Straight Sliders die set by Mama Elle
  • Colouring medium of your choice (I used Promarker Pens - cinnamon, caramel, pear green, sandstone, ruby, mustard, soft peach, spice, pebble blue, cool grey 2 and cool grey 4)
  • small coin (I used a one pence piece, it needs to be smaller than the width of the back of the chair stamp)
  • Glue and double sided foam pads
  • Guillotine
  • Die cutting machine

  1. Using black ink and onto white card, stamp two lots of bunting, a mouse, a chair, a desk, a plant, a pen pot and a cup with steam. Colour them all in and die cut them out

  2. Have your base card in tent fold form and then stamp a greeting using a black ink pad to the lower right hand corner. I used 'Sending Smiles'
Stamp 'Sending Smiles' to the bottom right of base card

  3. From the spotty purple card, cut two rectangles, one measuring 14 . 8 cm wide by 8 cm tall and another measuring 14 cm by 5 cm tall. (If your card is a little flimsy, glue the larger rectangle to some white card)
Cut two rectangles from spotty purple card

  4. Lay the chair in the middle of the larger rectangle and line the middle sized straight slider die over the middle of the back of the chair to check where it needs to be. Remove the chair without knocking the slider die out of position, then run the rectangle with the die through your die cutting machine
offer up chair and slider die to see where we need to cut slider hole

Remove chair but don't move the slider die

Run through die cutting machine so the slider hole is cut

  5. Decorate the rectangle with the other stamped items from step 1, ensuring none of them will get in the way of the chair once it runs up and down the hole cut by the slider die. So I glued the table half way off the left hand edge, with the cup and the pencil pot ontop of it. I glued the bunting to the top of the rectangle and the plant to the bottom right hand corner.  Turn the rectangle over and cut away any of the desk that is overhanging the rectangle.
Glue the desk, bunting, plant, pen pot and cup to the purple rectangle

Cut off the part of the table that overhangs the rectangle

  6. Attach the mouse to the chair using double sided foam pads

  7. Put the coin behind the slider hole cut in the rectangle. Put double sided foam pads onto the coin and then place the chair ontop so it attaches to the coin just above the middle of the chair back. If you tilt the rectangle the chair will now slide up and down the rectangle.
Put a coin behind the slider hole

Put two double sided foam pads onto the coin

Stick the chair to the coin about half way up the chair back

The mouse on his chair will now slide to the right

And he will slide to the left on his chair

  8. Glue the smaller purple spotty rectangle to the base card nearer the top so that it will be seen through the slider hole in the larger rectangle
Glue smaller rectangle to the base card

  9. Put two layers of double sided foam pads onto the back of the rectangle making sure to not put them too close to the coin or slider hole to allow it move freely. (In my photo I had only put one layer but realised after I stuck it down that it really needed two layers to allow the coin to move more freely)
Put double sided foam pads to the back of the rectangle

  10. Stick the rectangle to the base card

That is your finished card. Tilt the card and your little mouse on his office chair will happily slide left and right - sending lots of smiles to the recipient of the card :)
