Birthday Squares

Use some decorative papers and a small amount of stamped items to make this greeting card

I love using decorative papers to make a greeting card, so this weeks card is using 4 pieces from the same paper pack - a great way to ensure they go with each other!
Greeting card with decorative squares and a cake image

I've used a cake stamp from 'Piece of Cake' stamp set by Stamping Up which is small enough to fit into one of the squares. I do find making cards with this stamp set a little tricky normally as they are quite small images and can get lost on a large card. However this way works perfectly.

It doesn't have to be a stamped cake image - you could use decoupage images just cut down to squares or glue on buttons or other trims to decorate the card.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • 5 inch square white base card
  • 4 different patterned papers or card (I used all 4 pieces from the Neutrals 6x6 DSP by Stampin Up)
  • 2 square dies - one about 5 . 5 cm and the other slightly smaller at 4 cm (you can always just use a guillotine to cut squares if you do not have a die)
  • Piece of Cake stamp set by Stampin Up
  • Happy Birthday greeting (I used one from Beautiful Bouquet stamp set by Stampin Up)
  • Black and light blue ink pads
  • Colouring medium of your choice (I used Promarker pens - cool grey 1, verdigris and grey green)
  • 3 blue gems - mine were star shaped but round ones would work equally well
  • Glue and double sided foam pads
  • Die cutting machine or guillotine
  • Scissors

  1. Use the larger square die to cut 4 squares from different patterned papers

  2. Glue these equally spaced onto the base card

  3. Stamp the birthday cake using black ink onto white card. Then stamp a set of candles on the top

    Stamp candles ontop of cake

  4. Colour in and then use scissors to cut the cake out leaving a white gap around the edge

  5. Using blue ink, stamp your greeting onto white card. Use the smaller square die to cut it out

  6. Use double sided foam pads to stick the cake and greeting square onto squares on the base card. I put the cake in the lower left square and the greeting in the top right square
Use double sided foam pads to add cake and greeting to squares on base card

  7. Glue 3 gems randomly to the lower right square
