Birthday Flower

Use Stampin Up's Paper Florist Die set to make a 3d flower to decorate a birthday card

This weeks card is a mixture of my favourite two items - decorative papers and a 3d element. I've used strips of decorative paper from the same paper pack, so they automatically coordinate but because I've used small strips, you can use up your offcuts.
Use Stampin Up's Paper Florist dies to create 3d flower for this greeting card

The 3d flower element is made using some dies from Stampin Up's Paper Florist die set. It's quite easy to put together and the 3d element will make your card stand out from the rest of the pack :)

It's not a card to be posted though as it really wouldn't make its way through the postal system. However I am handing it to the recipient in a small gift bag instead of an envelope.

On a seperate note - how tidy is your crafting space?  If you are anything like me I tidy it and then as I make cards, it slowly builds with mess again.  It's got really bad recently so I made a concerted effort to have a thorough clear and clean - this included cleaning my cutting board (click here to be taken to my help page to find out how I did this).  I now have a really clear desk which really helps when you are trying to make cards!🤣   The self healing cutting mat has come up really clean too - got rid of all the gluey marks and ink stains.  I never thought I could clean the mat - I recommend you trying it if your mat was filthy like mine.

Follow the below link to find out how the card was made

You will need
  • Paper Florist die set by Stampin Up
  • Peachy coloured decorative papers (I used some sheets from 'You're a peach' DSP by Stampin Up)
  • Green, orange, mustard and white card
  • White 'Happy Birthday' peel off
  • A6 white base card
  • Glue and double sided tape
  • Guillotine

  1. Cut a piece of peachy coloured white spotty paper to 10 . 1 cm wide by 14 . 5 cm high and glue centrally to the front of the base card
Glue peach coloured spotty white card to base card

  2. Cut a piece of white card to 9 . 7 cm wide by 14 . 1 cm high and glue centrally ontop of spotty card on front of base card
Glue white rectangle over peachy spotty card

  3. Cut strips measuring 8 . 9 cm wide by 3 cm high from 4 pieces of patterned paper. I cut 2 from the peachy white spot, one from peach stripe and one from peachy flowers. Glue them equally spaced onto the white card on the front of the base card
Cut 4 strips of patterned card and glue horizontally to base card

  4. Die cut 5 poppy petals from orange card. There is a slit at the bottom of each petal - put a dab of glue to the left of this slit and then stick the right hand side of the slit over the dab of glue. This shapes the petal. Repeat for all of the petals
Cut 5 poppy petals from orange card

Put glue on petal to left of split

Fold right hand side of split petal over the glue to shape the petal

Shape all 5 petals the same way

  5. Cut a small circle from orange card - I used one of the small flower centre dies form the die set
Cut a circle from orange card

  6. Glue the first petal to the circle. Glue each of the other petals one by one to the circle so they are rougly evenly spaced.
Glue first petal to the circle

    Glue second petal to circle

Glue all 5 petals to circle spreading roughly evenly around circle

  7. Die cut a flower stamen from mustard coloured card and glue to the centre of the flower you have just made
Cut stamen from mustard card and glue to centre of flower

  8. Glue this flower to the bottom left of the base card
Glue flower to bottom lefthand side of base card

  9. Die cut two leaves from green card and glue to the card front so they just sit under the flower
Die cut two leaves from green card

Glue leaves to base card so they emenate from the flower

  10. Add the white 'Happy Birthday' peel off to the top right of the base card
Stick the white happy birthday peel off to the top right of card
